Linie I

Site-specific Sculpture, Hallein, Austria 2015
In collaboration with Philipp Eibach

Abstract

The site-specific installation consists of an endless string that is mounted on several pulleys in the room. A small part of the rope is white, the rest of it is black.

A motor keeps the string in constant movement, which leads the white part of the string to continuously cross the room like a straight line or a ray of light. Unswervingly does this line trace the contours of an imaginary solid and tirelessly draws it into the space as if it insists on its existence.

At the same time the line guides the viewer’s eyes and his attention. The movements of the viewer thereby become a part of the installation and provide a further description of the emerging shapes and volumes.
